<lj:music>-Against Me! "Don't Lose Touch"</lj:music>

I did this same meme last year.

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Retook a class, went to Canada, learned to knit.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't really make any new years resolutions. I don't really think they are very effective.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not that I know of...

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Again, not that I know of. Blake Smith went to high school with me, but I hadn't seen him since pre-calc in 10th grade...

5. What countries did you visit?
Canada. It was awesome =D!

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
Straight A's. Oh, and money, that'd be nice too.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
December 18th. Matthew Good is a lyrical genius and his concert was completely amazing.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Bringing my Japanese grade up from a C+ to an A-

9. What was your biggest failure?
Getting a C- in Japanese in the first place )=

11. What was the best thing you bought?
I don't know. Didn't really make any major purchases. I think I paid Kevin back for my Nightwish concert ticket. That was pretty awesome.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Lots of people's. I think this question is really weird...

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Nobody's behavior appalled me. Then again, compared to Tom I'm pretty sure no one would.

14. Where did most of your money go?
My college education?

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Canada, Matthew Good concert. Being done with this last semester, aka the semester from Hell. x_x

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
Matthew Good- "A Silent Army in the Trees"
The Airborne Toxic Event- "Sometime Around Midnight"
Owl City -"Fireflies"

17. Compared to this time last year, you are:
Feeling pretty good about everything. I came out of a horrible semester with really good grades and a much happier life.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Hung out with friends. I was so busy and stressed out because I missed everyone so much.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Stressing out. I made myself sick once this semester because I was so busy and stressed out and lonely.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent it with my family. (=

22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
I am already in love.

23. How many one-night stands?
Zero. Even if I was single, I'm not that kind of girl. \=

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Heroes, Trashy reality TV. Nothing like a whore fight to do homework to.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope. I don't hate anyone.

26. What was the best book you read?
Not The Tale of Genji that's for sure, though I did actually read it.not really sure.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Thriving Ivory (although I knew about them last year), The Airborne Toxic Event, Against Me! There's a bunch more, but I love music so much that everything is a great discovery.

28. What did you want and get?
a better Japanese grade/understanding of the language, To see Matthew Good live, a trip out of the country.

29. What did you want and not get?
Off-campus housing.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Hmm. Not really sure.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Spent time with my family on my 20th. (also, tomorrow is my half-birthday =D)

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Having a job and money.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
I tried to make myself look nice.

34. What kept you sane?
Define sanity (=

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hugh Jackman--I mean... uhhh... (=

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I don't care much for politics...

37. Who did you miss?
My friends )=

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Dan. He's an awesome kid. And Sanders-san because she is completely adorable. :3

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
Don't stress out as much. Time management goes a long way.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"I'd like to make myself believe that planet earth turns slowly
It's hard to say I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep
'Cause everything is never as it seems."

...also, I really wish people would stop taking pictures with my camera >

What is your lucky number?

What is your favorite number?

Now multiply those numbers together (or if the multiplied number is over 50, add them) and write that many facts about yourself:

...I don't have favorite numbers. I'm just going to make it 50 and go for the whole thing.
Here goes nothing:

1. I have a lot of trouble with basic math, specifically division. I can get a 97% in calculus, but if I have to do long division by hand, I fail miserably at it.
2. I can name every country in the world, and can almost identify all the flags. Last time I tried I only missed Malawi and Djibouti
3. I there are so many languages on my list of things I want to learn. I think Persian has somehow scooted to the front of the list since I'm considering it for next year, but the others include but are not limited to German, Russian, Arabic, Finnish, Korean, and Swedish.
4. When I was younger, I had an irrational fear of wooden decks. No. I'm not joking. I fell through one when I was six or seven and my leg got stuck. When you're seven, that is terrifying.
5. My dad ran over my foot with the car when I was ten. Nothing was broken.
6. People tell me I have an abnormally long tongue. Please keep all "that's what she said" jokes to yourselves (=
7. I have a low tolerance for incompetence or stupidity
8. I have more taste buds than the average person.
9. As far as I know, I am immune to poison ivy.
10. The smell of Cheerios makes me gag. Even sitting next to someone who is eating them makes me feel sick.
11. In British Literature, My friend and I had a fanclub devoted to Sydney Carton from the book A Tale of Two Cities. He is the original emo kid.
12. I am a huge music nerd. I like finding new music and sharing it with people.
13. I get really sad when people don't like the music I recommend to them. )=
14. My mom used to try to get me to try out for Jeopardy. I always knew most of the answers, but I knew if I were put on the spot I wouldn't be able to think fast enough.
15. I really like to own CDs.
16. I like being complimented on my clothing. I like to think I have a fun style.
17. I collect stuff from various countries. My family is friends with many groups of missionaries, so I've had a lot of cool stuff for years.
18. I wish I had more time to read for fun.
19. I'm apparently really good at baking and I don't know what I do differently than everyone else.
20. I took the SATs twice and got the same score both times.
21. I have a real ninja star.
22. People were surprised in high school when I told them I was against music censorship.
23. I read everything I post/every email I send at least three times before I send it.
24. I have issues dealing with stress.
25. When I was younger, there were a lot of video games that I liked so much that I wouldn't finish because I didn't want them to end.
26. I don't kill spiders. I release them outside.
27. I haven't had soda in over seven years.
28. I can't listen to myself on a recording even when I'm alone.
29. I prefer writing in pen to writing in pencil.
30. I hate scary movies. I can't watch them by myself.
31. I watch far too much trashy reality television. It makes good background noise.
32. There are times when I really, really miss the 90's.
33. I don't really like children.
34. I hate being messy.
35. my favorite kanji are the ones for "prisoner" 囚人because it is a person in a box with a person looking in at him.
36. I really like to sing while playing Rock Band, but rarely do it in large groups of people.
37. I feel accomplished when I ride buses by myself and don't get lost.
38. I don't really like driving.
39. I don't like change very much.
40. I think South Park is hilarious.
41. I'm kind of a snob. But at least I admit it.
42. I want to knit a sweater or some kind of top.
43. Growing up, most of my good friends were left-handed.
44. I love roller coasters. I usually have to drag someone on them with me kicking and screaming.
45. I like that I have naturally long eyelashes.
46. I hate swimsuit shopping for reasons that most people already know.
47. I hate when people use "good" as an adverb (in place of "well").
48. I have trouble reading texts where T9 has changed one word to something else. It's really hard sometimes for me to get it from context.
49. I wish I was more athletic, but I fail miserably at sports.
50. As much as I love music, I hate dancing. Maybe because I'm bad at it, but I just really don't like it.

Also, this song is awesome! (albeit a tad bit cheesy).

Heat some oil in a frying pan and pour about one quarter of the egg mixture in the pan. Spread the egg thinly and fry for one min. Make four thin, round omelets like crepes. Slice the omelets into thin strips. Cut cucumber into thin strips. Cut tomato into thin rounds. Boil water in a large pan and add noodles. Boil noodles for a couple of minutes. Drain noodles and pour cold water quickly to cool them. Put cold noodles on a plate. Place toppings on noodles. Add dressing right before eating. Add karashi if you would like.

Kushidango - Sweet Dumplings

INGREDIENTS

- 1 1/3 cup rice flower
- 3/4 cup warm water

For sauce:
- 2/3 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 1/2 tbsps soy sauce
- 1 1/2 tsps corn starch (it asks for "katakuriko" -dogtooth violet starch, but I wouldn't know where to get that so substitute cornstarch)
- 1 1/2 tbsps water

- Bamboo skewers

PREPARATION
Put rice flower in a bowl and add warm water. Knead the dough well. Make small round dumplings. Place dumplings in a steamer and steam them on high heat for 10 minutes. Cool dumplings and skewer them on sticks (about 3-4 per skewer). Mix water, sugar and soy sauce in a pan and put it on medium heat. Mix water and cornstarch in a cup and set it aside. When the sauce boils, add the starch mixture and mix quickly. Slightly grill the skewered dumplings and brush the sauce over them. Makes four servings.

*Note: When I tried this one, I think I might have made them a bit too big because they were kind of sticky on the inside. try making them rather small.

Sweet Pumpkin

INGREDIENTS
- 1/4 medium kabocha (Japanese pumpkin)
- 2 tbsps sugar
- 2 tbsps butter
- 1 tbsp milk
- 1 egg
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder

PREPARATION
Peel kabocha and cut it into small chunks. Heat kabocha in microwave until softened. Put kabocha pieces in pan and mash them. Add sugar, butter, milk, vanilla and cinnamon. Put the pan over low heat and mix well. remove from heat and let cool. Shape the dough into small and long ovals. Place ovals on an oven pan. Bake at 375 degrees F for 10 minutes.

*When I made these, they didn't come out right because we couldn't find the right kind of pumpkin and my mom thought it would work if we substituted pumpkin pie filling. It didn't. Sorry, this one might be hard. )=

If I can find any other cool stuff, I'll put them here.

First thing: Firefox has been having issues for a long while now, so I am trying out Google Chrome. I kind of like it so far.

Second: I was cleaning my room today because my mom was getting annoyed with my "spring cleaning" attitude downstairs... So I was going through a whole bunch of papers in my desk drawer. Among all my old physics notes and People to People handouts, I found 2 interesting things. I want to post them here. I'll put one in this post and one in the next as they are not really related at all.

So, the first thing I found is a bit of research I had done for a speech in 12th grade English class. I was supposed to argue against music censorship. While looking for quotes and things to help prove my point (I remember finding one from Frank Zappa, but I couldn't find it, it was a neat quote, though.) I came across a list of songs that the big radio stations had blacklisted after 9/11. The list seemed horrifically stupid to me then, and it still does. Some of the songs, I can kind of understand... but others. It's just ridiculous that they would be banned.

(Please note that I have lost the source of this list, as I could not find the bibliography amongst the hundreds of pages of crap that I threw away)

Drowning Pool: "Bodies"
Mudvayne: "Death Blooms"
Megadeth: "Dread and the Fugitive," "Sweating Bullets"
Saliva: "Click Click Boom"
POD: "Boom"
Metallica: "Seek and Destroy," "Harvester of Sorrow," "Enter Sandman," "Fade to Black"
Rage Against the Machine: Everything
Nine Inch Nails: "Head Like a Hole"
Godsmack: "Bad Religion"
Tool: "Intolerance"
Soundgarden: "Blow Up the Outside World," "Fell on Black Days," "Black Hole Sun"
AC/DC: "Shot Down in Flames," "Shoot to Thrill," "Dirty Deeds," "Highway to Hell," "Safe in New York City," "TNT," "Hell's Bells"
Black Sabbath: "War Pigs," "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath," "Suicide Solution"
Dio: "Holy Diver"
Steve Miller: "Jet Airliner"
Van Halen: "Jump"
Queen: "Another One Bites the Dust," "Killer Queen"
Pat Benatar: "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "Love is a Battlefield"
Oingo Boingo: "Dead Man's Party"
REM: "It's the End of the World as We Know It"
Talking Heads: "Burning Down the House"
Judas Priest: "Some Heads are Gonna Roll"
Pink Floyd: "Run Like Hell," "Mother"
Savage Garden: "Crash and Burn"
Dave Matthews Band: "Crash Into Me"
The Bangles: "Walk Like an Egyptian" (What?)
The Pretenders: "My City Was Gone"
Alanis Morissette: "Ironic" (?)
Barenaked Ladies: "Falling for the First Time"
Fuel: "Bad Day" (?)
John Parr: "St. Elmo's Fire"
Peter Gabriel: "When You're Falling"
Kansas: "Dust in the Wind"
Led Zeppelin: "Stairway to Heaven"
The Beatles: "A Day in the Life," "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," "Ticket to Ride," "Ob La Di, Ob La Da"
Bob Dylan/Guns N' Roses: "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"
Arthur Brown: "Fire"
Blue Oyster Cult: "Burnin' For You"
Paul McCartney and the Wings: "Live and Let Die"
Jimi Hendrix: "Hey Joe"
Jackson Brown: "Doctor My Eyes"
John Mellencamp: "Crumbling Down," "I'm On Fire"
U2: "Sunday, Bloody Sunday"
Boston: "Smokin'"
Billy Joel: "Only the Good Die Young"
Barry McGuire: "Eve of Destruction"
Steam: "Na Na Na Na Hey Hey"
Drifters: "On Broadway"
Shelly Fabares: "Johnny Angel"
Los Bravos: "Black is Black"
Peter and Gordon: "I Go to Pieces," "A World Without Love"
Elvis Presley: "(You're the) Devil in Disguise"
Zombies: "She's Not There"
Elton John: "Benny & the Jets," "Daniel," "Rocket Man"
Jerry Lee Lewis: "Great Balls of Fire"
Santana: "Evil Ways"
Louis Armstrong: "What a Wonderful World" (What?)
Youngbloods: "Get Together"
Ad Libs: "The Boy From New York City"
Peter Paul and Mary: "Blowin' in the Wind," "Leavin' on a Jet Plane"
The Rolling Stones: "Ruby Tuesday"
Simon and Garfunkel: "Bridge Over Troubled Water"
Happenings: "See You in September"
Carole King: "I Feel the Earth Move"
Yager and Evans: "In the Year 2525"
Norman Greenbaum: "Spirit in the Sky"
Brooklyn Bridge: "Worst the Could Happen"
Cat Stevens: "Peace Train," "Morning Has Broken"
Jan and Dean: "Dead Man's Curve"
Martha and the Vandellas: "Nowhere to Run," "Dancing in the Streets"
Hollies: "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"
Sam Cooke Herman Hermits: "Wonder World"
Petula Clark: "A Sign of the Times"
Don McLean: "American Pie"
J. They let Britney Spears run around singing "F-U-C-K Me!" (That's what she's saying, in case anyone didn't catch her attempt to be "clever" in her new song) where anyone can hear, and yet they didn't want to play any song that had the word "airplane" in it, regardless of how harmless it was.
